Keycap wall thickness can contribute to typing feel and sound, but it is never the only factor. The switch, plate, case, stabilizers, mounting style and typing technique all matter too.

What does a 1.7 mm wall mean?

The 1.7 mm value describes the wall thickness of the keycap shown in the illustration. A thicker wall can change rigidity and resonance compared with a thinner keycap. It does not guarantee a “perfect”, deeper or quieter sound on every keyboard.

Why can the same keycaps sound different on two keyboards?

Switches, stabilizers, internal case volume, plate material and damping can all change the result. Read keycap specifications together with the full keyboard configuration, rather than treating one thickness figure as a universal acoustic promise.

What to check before choosing a set

  • Mechanical compatibility: MX-style cross stems, ISO or ANSI layout, and bottom-row keys.
  • The kit coverage image, which shows the keys actually supplied.
  • The material, profile and thickness stated on the specific product page.
